MTG Hobbit prerelease week starts Thursday August 7 at local game stores across North Carolina — and this week’s roundup is all about making sure you’re ready.
MTG The Hobbit — Prerelease This Week
Prerelease August 7–13 | Full release August 14, 2026
MTG returns to Middle-earth with its largest Universes Beyond set since The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit features Bilbo, Thorin, the thirteen dwarves, Smaug, and The One Ring as a box topper. Adventure is the returning mechanic. Two Scene Boxes (Crack the Plates, Treasures of Smaug) replace Commander precons this time around.

Pokémon — Pitch Black (released Jul 17)
Still fresh at stores. Mega Darkrai ex Hyper Rare is the chase pull. Secondary market prices are stabilizing — now is a reasonable window to buy singles if you’ve been waiting. Promo cards still available at GameStop, Best Buy, and Hot Topic while supplies last.
Disney Lorcana — Attack of the Vine! (released Jul 24)
The biggest Lorcana set ever is on shelves. Christopher Robin — Hunny Sage (the multi-ink card) is the competitive chase. Monsters Inc., Up, and Turning Red in the set are driving strong collector demand. Format rotation is in effect — check your deck is legal for Core Constructed before your next event.
